Uraro Community Store, built in 1980 is derived from a private company with one shareholder, the Corporation. It is the primary retail outlet for this thriving community including surrounding outstations and the ever-increasing tourism market. The enterprise addresses a wide range of the areas of retail vertical markets including groceries, hardware, clothing, kitchenware, giftware, fuel, gas, prepared foods, frozen goods, white goods, sporting goods and automotive accessories.

Management endeavours to: Identify “best practise” in terms of nutritional programs marketed by the store for the Kalumburu Community and its customers. The management will continue to assess the capacity of the store in relation to best practise, and increase sales of healthier foods.

Uraro Store management has commenced a strategy to demonstrate its commitment to nutritional health and improving the range of products available.
We aim to:
As the major source of food and nutrition in the community, Uraro Store has a major role to play in promoting the physical well being of the community and can be thought of as an essential service or a commercial enterprise.
Utilising committees to help guide in the operation of the store, we apply policies which can benefit the community in a variety of ways, including the use of effective nutrition policies, the range, volume and price of foods.
Operating a book-up system costs money and can contribute to the higher prices of products, EFTPOS on the other hand offers similar advantages to book-up, assists people in budgeting but adds not cost to the enterprise.
The kinds of food that people buy and how they prepare it is limited by the type of cooking and storage facilities that people have in their home. It is not unusual for fridges, freezers, stoves, storage cabinets, fry pans and on occasions even power to be unavailable.
The stores restrictions on food quality and quantity is also compromised by:
Monday to Friday: 7.30am - 4pm closed for lunch 12.30pm to 2pm. Saturday 8am to 11am and closed on Sunday & Public Holidays!
